M3mf1s / Jane Doe / Turbocharger
12 – December – 2017, 8ball Club – Thessaloniki, Greece.
M3MF1S is a Greek alternative rock/groove metal band from Thessaloniki, Greece. Their main characteristic is their strong sound, smooth melodies and more importantly how they combine their music with Greek lyrics.
M3mf1s was formed in 2012 by former band members of Psycho Choke, Vein Velocity, Less Than Human and Insane Court. Based on their long-year experience on extreme metal, the brand new group now tries to transfer their passion for heavy sound combined with bitter lyrics coming straight from their heart that matches every taste out there.
We saw them live for the second time at 8Ball Club in Thessaloniki on the 2nd of December, playing with Rock n Rollers Turbocharger and alternative Jane Doe.
We arrived at 8 ball club at around 7.10 pm although the door opening was scheduled for 8.00 o’clock. In our disappointment we learnt that the doors wouldn’t open until 9 o’clock. We waited patiently outside the premises of 8ball as a number of people started to gather around.
When we finally got to enter the building we were greeted by a pleasant surprise. Group vocalist Alkis Kehagias offered us free shots to welcome us to the pre- show. We discussed with him for a while and then we took our seats on the front line as always.
It’s 9.30 and first on stage are the heavy rock ’n’ rollers TURBOCHARGER. The three-membered band from Katerini, Greece, presented their new 5-track EP called “Heavy R’n’R Machine“. Their classic rock and roll influences by Motorhead and AC/DC were obvious and made us happy to know that there are still young people loyal to this kind of music.
It’s around 10.15 and next on stage appeared the atmospheric JANE DOE. Jane Doe is an indie/alternative rock band from Thessaloniki, Greece, formed in 2007.The strong vocals with a combination of the electronic additions were what made them special. Their eerie presentation of a variety of songs from almost all of their albums, made us feel the unstoppable passion and soul that they have put in their music all of those years. One song that stood out for me was called “This pain is real” from the album «Recipes for Refugees’’. Despite all this, a personal opinion is that, although the band is exquisite for the genre that it represents, I wouldn’t say that it was the right choice to warm up the audience for what was next.
At 11.00 o’clock the time we were waiting for was already here! The show started when the members of M3MF1S appeared on stage and started playing an introduction of their song “Gliko Paradokso”. When Alkis appeared on stage and started singing a couple of canons with comfetti went out so as to signal the beginning of this awesome live. Band vocalist Alkis Kehagias made us feel love, hate, anger and passion at the same time with his rough and strong vocals. Guitarists Joe FK and Stelios Pliakas impressed us with their skills one more time. Bassist Dimitris ‘Mich’ Oikonomou gave us a perfect and confident performance. Drummer Apostolos Mousias always startle us with his strong and steady drum talent.
M3MF1S is a band that becomes one with its crowd, by their songs that speak in the heart and mind of everyone. By their interaction with the people that support them. By speaking the truth and writing about his personal experiences and feelings. Alkis becomes one with all of his songs and that’s why he chose the Greek lyrics. The result is that the passion and energy that they willingly transmitted to us was more than enough to open mosh pits, to encourage crowd surfing with their more dynamic/grunge songs and bring tears to our eyes by their more tone-downed ones. They warm our heart and soul by showing us that we aren’t alone.
It’s important to state that those guys pay for their work with their own savings without any help from sponsors or companies.
All in all, it was a beautiful live. With the 90’s elements and the post –grunge parts M3MF1S lets you burst out and express as many anger, pain and love as you wished. Turbocharger and Jane Doe deserve a good shout out for their support performances.
